Samsung SyncMaster SA950: Overview

If you want a nice screen on your desktop, it is difficult to see beyond the design simply beautiful Samsung SyncMaster SA950.

Just look is a thing of beauty. And it is 3D capable.

But 3D is a welcome guest at the party in the world of technology. Moving from room to room, talking a little 'too hard, visibly sweating, and give the phone number at all.

Journalists (including us, the TR is likely that at some point) is reluctant to say "whether we like it or not, is here to stay," but we try to study the landscape for five years or so ...

In summary, here's a 3D monitor.

And if a 3D monitor can rise above the hostile introduction, is the Samsung SyncMaster SA950.

This design is very elegant bezel hard to find something that would look better on the screen of the display itself - unless your partner you have access to these naughty photos of Scarlett Johansen.

The display makes the Samsung TN SA950 is a LED backlit, which means that it is extremely thin compared with its backlit LCD screen cousins.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think most would agree, Samsung has done a great job with the visual design here, from the input supply in the arm of asymmetric adjustment, this monitor makes a strong statement.

Samsung SyncMaster SA950: Verdict

If we ignore the 3D precious few minutes to review the color quality and sharpness 2D, the results are surprising.

TN boasts excellent response time (which is why they are used for 3D and game screens), but often suffer from a performance in black and white poor. The SA950 is not all cut against the IPS screens, such as the Asus PA238Q, but blacks are Inkie that offers other TN, we tested recently.

Glass-like finish that Samsung tend to offer better blacks, but the warning is all the consideration it chucks back in the sunlight.

Whites get a little more saturated, but the top end, probably because the screen is bright, of course.

However, if you use this monitor for gaming or watching movies, do not believe the color quality will be a problem for you.

Ok, time to press the 3D button. Literally.

The Samsung SyncMaster SA950 touch interface button functions '3 D 'that films between 2D and 3D. '2 D-3D 'was the only way to get a 3D image, the others did nothing at all or by a pair of images to a degree unviewable.

We screwed up, we went through software solutions, but can not yet be able to induce a state of real 3D. Even then, there was almost no depth to the image no matter how we adjusted 'depth' option. Hmmm.

It's a shame, because somebody has to make the process easier than Nvidia's 3D Vision is now, and Samsung has clearly tried.

One of the areas has made great strides, even if the 3D glasses themselves.

Crikey, they are comfortable. Especially after having to endure torture nettle Nvidia glasses lined so long.

Custom Samsung glasses are lighter and smaller, you know, headache-y.

Finally we come to price. We can only recommend this monitor as a purchase frugal, but if you have bought, we would be jealous.

Why? Because it's big, sleek, slim and has good image quality.

What 3D inefficiency, it is almost backwards in usability in comfort. In total, it is a worthy addition to your office.

We liked:

We have to say is that the winning design for us. This device is very well designed, all graceful lines with a solid build quality too.

Samsung 3D glasses are as impressive, much more pleasing to the eye and the mind that two generations of Nvidia's specifications.

120Hz refresh rate, the 3D monitor is still an advantage for those simply wishing to experience a great 2D as well.

Hated:

This price is too high for a TN screen, including one that boasts the image quality as.

The 3D implementation is somewhat limited as well, but good to see that Samsung is trying its own approach.

One last word:

Some problems can not strange 3D stop smiling when we look at this screen - and only partly because we can see our own reflection.
