[Survey] Top 10 Android AppsHog 43% of Time Spent inApps

Let me first start by adisclaimer. I do not own anAndroid phone, and hencehave no real experience withAndroid Apps. But I havefriends who swear by theirAndroid phones and the Appmarketplace for Android. Iguess Android being open-sourced, has a big developercommunity around it. Over 250,000 Android Apps areavailable for users, but thingsare not as rosy as they seem.According to asurvey byNielsen, only a handful ofAndroid Apps are actually usedand the rest are just makingup the numbers. There are 250,000 AndroidApps, but the top 10 are used43% of the time. The top 50Android Apps are used for over60% of the time by users. This means an incredible 0.02% of Android Apps are actuallyused while the rest just aremaking up numbers. Why is this scary for AndroidApp Developers? If you are an Android Appdeveloper and your app is notranked in the top 50, it meansyou are competing with somany apps for such a smallpart of the user pie forAndroid.Figures like these, couldactually demoralise the appdeveloper community. I havenot come across a similarsurvey done for iPhone or iPadApps, so no way to know ifthese trends are Androidspecific or generic trends withevery platform. Not sure but with theacquisition of Motorola, Google might be able to pushforward better Androidfeatures with hardwaresupport and that might have atrickle down effect on theApps market too. What are your views on so fewApps, hogging such a largechunk of time spent onAndroid? Does it show thatAndroid is stagnant? Do dropin your comments.
