Copyright Free Images
Posted on Thursday, August 4, 2011 by android apps market for tablests
It is often a challenging task to
get the images for your website
online. What do you do, when
you want to look out for images
online? You search in search
engines. They give you loads of
pictures on one word you type
in there. But wait a minute; can
you really add them in your
websites? The answer is, No. This
is because it has so many issues
associated with it. These issues
are called “Copyright issues”.
So, remember while you can see
loads of pictures online, you can
only use copyright free images.
Usually, in the internet you find
images with copyright licensing.
For example, check out the
screen below, this is how Google
presents its copyright warning-
“ This image may be subject to
copyright”.
Techniques to Search for
Copyright Free Images
Generally, famous search
engines including, Google and
Yahoo, provide an option to
search copyright free images. In
the figure below, you can see an
option “ Advanced Search” from
Google.
In the Advanced search Google
provides option to check out the
usage rights as shown below.
Same is the case with Yahoo. As
you can see below, there is an
option for “ Advanced Search”.
General Information
Always a picture may be subject
to individual licensing too, so
you may need to contact the
copyright holder and take his/
her consent before using the
images in your website.
If you still need any additional
information on copyright
materials, you may consult
the Copyright Advisory
Network or Code of Best
Practices in Fair Use for Media
Literacy Education
But, after careful scrutiny of
copyrights in Google and Yahoo,
you might not have any suitable
pictures left, which you might
need.
So, look up for some websites
like iStockphoto or any other
sources, which are free on
internet. Sometimes, you might
have to pay a minimal fee for
using others pictures in your
website.
Also, if you are using a free
photo, make sure you give a
credit link back to the original
holder.
