How to Check and Update Current Versionof any Plug-in for Google Chrome

Chrome is one of the widely used browser for
internet browsing. Chrome supports additional
functionality by giving flexibility to user to install
added plug-ins. Plug-ins are simply the set of
additional functionality that can be installed (or
plugged) in the browser as per user
requirement.
By default any plug-in that has been installed in
current version of Google Chrome will be
updated automatically as soon as the new
version is put online. Chrome has inbuilt
functionality to auto update the extension by
itself so that user do not have to worry about
manually updating. Chrome does this task every
few hours or so.
But still if any user for some purpose wants to
update the extension manually (or rather
forcefully) then that can be done by this simple
procedure as explained below.
Current Version Google Chrome Extension
Upgrade
Simply open the Chrome and click on Customize
and Control Button (wrench icon).
Go to Tools – Extensions to open the extensions
page as shown below:
Open Extension Window
Or alternate type chrome://extensions/ in the
address bar
Address Bar Short cut
The page as below shall be displayed:
Extensions Page in Chrome
Click on the developer mode sign and then on
Update Extensions Now to update immediate
Chrome generally checks for extensions update
every few hours or so, but this time interval can
be changed as per desired time.
Command line flag ‘–extensions-update-
frequency’ can be used as shown below:
Go to start – Run.
In Run type ‘chrome.exe –extensions-update-
frequency=45’ as shown below -
Command Line Flag
Here 45 stand for 45 minutes (or whatever
interval you want to give between update
check).
One more important thing to note is that if the
developer has published the extension using
Chrome Developer Dashboard, then update
process is simply automatic. Chrome takes care
of it, while if the extension is hosted some where
else (other from Google chrome store), it
becomes responsibility of the developer to put ‘
update_url’ key to ‘manifest.json’ file to make
the update process automatic. Please click
here for more information on auto update.
The feature to add extension in Chrome is quite
helpful if user wants to enhance the functionality.
A large number of Chrome extension are
available to suit every user’s need. A well-
supported developer’s network makes it even
more fun to write one.
