LED light functionality tops Jijia’s R&D agenda

The maker is tapping quality products and aftersales services to enhance competitiveness.
Jijia Optoelectronics Technology Co. Ltd is adjusting sales and R&D strategies to bolster competitiveness. This is supplemented by exploration efforts in emerging markets such as the Middle East, Japan and Russia.
In an interview with Global Sources, vice general manager Liu Zhouyuan discusses the company’s strategies in coping with competition in the line. Below are excerpts of the discussion.

What is Jijia’s current R&D focus?
We are paying more attention to LED tubes, lights, streetlights and other related products. Lighting accessories are emphasized in the domestic market.
Export-bound LED luminaires, however, are still valuable in widening our sales.
Further, continuous product launches remain crucial in keeping our competitiveness.

Are you focusing on the OEM or ODM business?
Our company has been driven by the OEM business in previous years, but we have also ventured into ODM production to attract more clients.
We are equipped with a Yamaha LED encapsulator and Philips Spectrum system for R&D activities.
We start with an idea then proceed to design, sample making, performance tests and finally mass production.

How do you ensure product safety and quality?
We strive to provide products with the highest quality.
Our QC system consists of six checkpoints, starting from inspection of key parts to semifinished and finished products. We also conduct random accessory checks.
LED chips are sourced from Taiwan’s Epistar and the US’ Cree. PC is sourced from Mitsubishi.
Our QC personnel perform tests on parts, accessories, warehouse storage, assembly, SQC, FQC, aging, packing and final shipping.
Our products carry CE, RoHS, FCC and UL certifications.

How are you coping with the increasing competition in the line?
Product homogeneity, vague selling points, difficulty in attracting customers and increasing raw material and labor costs have been our most pressing obstacles.
Aside from providing high quality products, we are enriching our aftersales service. We provide samples upon buyer request. Specific requirements on samples are helpful for efficient processing. Samples of our existing models can be shipped in just an hour.
In addition, our LEDs come with a five-year warranty, while finished units carry three-year warranties.
Our company takes full responsibility of products with defects arising from manufacturing errors.

What strategies are being implemented in light of challenges in the sector?
We are concentrating on boosting the functionality of LED tubes and lamps. This includes human sensor, light and sound controller, and other attributes.
Further, we are zeroing in on the R&D of a single product line. Our goal is to specialize in the sector.

How would you evaluate your company’s performance in the past two years?
We are not satisfied with how we performed in the domestic and international markets.
We plan to reorganize, widen product range, adjust sales strategies and optimize our current resources to keep us ahead.
We also tried to offer better aftersales services. Our sales and technical support representatives are always available to respond to client inquiries.

What are your company’s export plans in the next six months?
We are optimistic of export sales in the next six months. Factoring in the unstable overseas market situation, the increase may range from 10 to 20 percent.
We intend to stick to our traditional markets such as the US and the EU, while exploring emerging destinations, including the Middle East, Japan or Russia.
In addition, we will participate in various international trade shows to meet more clients and know the latest information in the line.
